The role

As a First Line Manager - Mechanical, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is a role where your leadership will make a real difference, ensuring operational readiness while developing your own career in a dynamic, high-profile environment.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll lead a team of skilled mechanical fitters working on some of the most complex engineering projects in the UK maintaining and upgrading nuclear submarines that are critical to national defence.

 

  • Lead and motivate a team of mechanical fitters across submarine projects.
  • Plan and oversee repair, replacement, overhaul and maintenance activities.
  • Champion health and safety standards in all production activities.
  • Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to resolve technical challenges.
  • Develop team capability through coaching and continuous improvement.

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

 

Essential experience of the First Line Manager - Mechanical

  • Strong understanding of health and safety processes in production environments.
  • Experience supervising a team or the ambition to step up and learn.
  • Knowledge of repair, replacement, overhaul and maintenance processes.
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills to inspire and motivate.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems and practices.

 

Qualifications for the First Line Manager - Mechanical

  • ONC or NVQ Level 3 in a relevant mechanical discipline.
  • ILM Level 3 (or equivalent leadership qualification).
  • IOSH certificate (or equivalent safety qualification).

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
