The role

As a First Line Manager - Mechanical, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Are you an experienced Mechanical Fitter First Line Manager ready for your next adventure? Babcock Devonport are seeking experienced Mechanical Line Managers to join our team at Devonport, Plymouth. This is your chance to contribute to some highly complex engineering projects.

 

We are looking for individuals for both a standard FLM Mechanical role, and a FLM Reactor Mechanical position.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll lead and manage a skilled team, with a focus on supervising Mechanical Fitters to ensure efficient workflow, high-quality standards, and adherence to safety protocols. 

 

  • Promote and uphold control of work processes.
  • Maintain workplace safety, meeting health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Manage team development with focus on time, performance, behaviours, and quality.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance in your area.
  • Take ownership and ensure project objectives are met within schedule and quality requirements, following company procedures.

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

 

There is an opportunity for Optimised Working Patterns (OWP) within this role. OWP is a temporary variation to your standard terms and condition that commits you to support 7-day working arrangements. For full details of the patterns, pay and durations, this can be found in the OWP 1 and OWP 2 agreements (available from hiring manager).

 

Primarily, it involves 4-week shift cycles consisting of either day/back shift or day/night shift. An example of the remuneration for these shifts is as follows:

 

Gross salary: £40,098 Gross OTE for core Dayshift/Backshift Pattern: £57,425

 

Essential experience of the First Line Manager - Mechanical

  • Strong understanding of Health and Safety processes in production activities.
  • Experience supervising a team or willingness to develop leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with repair, replacement, overhaul, and maintenance processes.
  • Effective leadership and interpersonal skills to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical systems and operations.

 

Qualifications for the First Line Manager - Mechanical

  • ONC, NVQ Level 3
  • ILM Level 3
  • IOSH

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
