The role
As an Employee Relations Specialist, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will be tasked with giving advice across varying disciplines, such as: absence management, flexible working, disciplinaries, grievances, performance management, employee welfare and much more in a highly unionised environment.


Day-to-day, you’ll provide advice and guidance to line management regarding general HR issues and policy such that all queries are resolved and line management are informed of the appropriate company policy, procedure and/or course of action 

 

  • Interpret and/or develop HR policies and procedures in the light of changing company requirements and in line with evolving HR best practise, ensure employees and line management are kept fully aware and appraised of their legal obligation and the approach of the business to HR matters 
  • Provide operational advice on a range of employment and performance issues. Including investigation and resolution of all stage disciplinary and grievances, and all other case work in line with company policy 
  • Ensure the company sickness and performance management policies are implemented through supporting employees and line management, monitor/report on long term sickness and administer the long-term disability scheme, facilitating coaching and mentoring and performance improvement plans and providing advice where appropriate such that an efficient and timely service is provided 
  • Provide support to the HR department, as required, such that departmental obligations and objectives are achieved 

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 3 days in the office/onsite and 2 days working from home.

 

Essential experience of the Employee Relations Specialist:

  • Have prior experience of working autonomously as the Employee Relations expert within a complex global organisation. 
  • Be self-confident, approachable, and proactive in the way you carry out your work. 
  • Have an excellent understanding and knowledge of ER, employment law and relevant legislation, with an awareness of the importance of keeping up to date. 
  • Have current working experience of operating in a Unionised environment. 
  • Be commercially and data driven, with a pragmatic and innovative approach to ER whilst delivering proactive direction and solutions, independently and collectively.

 

Qualifications for the Employee Relations Specialist:

  • Membership to the CIPD and would benefit from holding or working towards a Level 5 CIPD qualification or equivalent experience. 

 

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
