The Electrical Design Engineer role is based within our Devonport Royal Dockyard business area.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy’s new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme.

The role

The difference our new Electrical Design Engineer will make

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary.  

Day to day, you shall be responsible to provide professional and flexible technical support to the ongoing operations and maintenance of power systems and equipment. 

The Power Distribution and Standby Generation (PDSG) team within ‘Engineering Services – Facilities Engineering Group’ Technical Authority are responsible for providing both technical support and design consultancy for non-nuclear and nuclear Babcock PDSG assets (including high voltage and high energy 50Hz and 60Hz distribution), and provide a delegated professional service to the operational teams supporting Ministry of Defence non-nuclear estate, for Devonport.

Essential experience

•    Understand electrical engineering principles for developing and maintaining electrical power systems
•    Positively interact with customers and stakeholders to capture project scopes and requirements to deliver successful projects.
•    Experience of designing power systems
•    Knowledge of the general regulations, legislation and standards that are applicable to Facilities Electrical Engineering, i.e. the IET Wiring Regulations BS7671
