The role
As a Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will support the team in providing their design capability, where the activities are generally focused on the provision of new, or modification to electrical power distribution assets/equipment and their supporting supervisory control and data acquisition systems.
 

Day-to-day, you’ll be involved in design projects where you’ll undertake a variety of activities in support of design development and produce design deliverables across the entire design lifecycle (start-up, concept, scheme, detail, and implementation). Further responsibilities will also include:

  • Providing professional and flexible technical support to design activities such as site visits, surveying electrical equipment and infrastructure and developing installation solutions
  • Capturing and developing requirements and engineering delivery plans and undertaking optioneering activities
  • Producing AutoCAD 2D design drawings 
  • Producing design documentation such as engineering management plans, design reports, equipment specifications, installation and commissioning specifications 
  • Providing support to implementation phase of projects (including witness factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, responding to contractor’s technical queries & radio frequency interferences and commissioning) 

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 2 days per week onsite at Devonport. 

 

Essential experience of the Electrical Design Engineer:

  • Awareness of legislation, regulations and standards that are applicable to power distribution systems and equipment
  • Understand electrical engineering principles for developing and maintaining power distribution systems
  • Experience of developing designs using a typical design lifecycle
  • Ability to understand and produce electrical engineering drawings and documents
  • Experience with one or more of the following areas: high voltage/low voltage power distribution, supervisory control and data acquisition systems, protection systems, switchgear, transformers, rectifiers, high voltage/low voltage commissioning

 

Qualifications for the Electrical Design Engineer:

  • A Higher National Certificate in a relevant electrical engineering discipline or equivalent demonstrable experience 

 

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) and Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
