The role
As a Design Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Working for the Refit Support Equipment Group you will be responsible for delivering a Technical Authority and Design Agency function, supporting the various business units within Devonport Royal Dockyard
Day-to-day, you’ll support a team in providing their Design and Technical Authority responsibilities to the business.
- Production of design documentation and supporting assessments, acting as lead author where appropriate
- Development and delivery of designs in accordance with the design process (Start-up, Concept, Scheme, Detailed and Implementation phases) and relevant legislation
- Provision of advice, as directed by line management, on the implementation and maintenance of design documentation and compliance with relevant codes, standards and legislation
- This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Design Engineer
- Understanding of mechanical engineering principles for the design, operation and maintenance of pressure/pipework systems
- Knowledge of the design lifecycle
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Good communication skills, both oral and written, including report writing
Qualifications for the Design Engineer
- HND or equivalent in a mechanical/process engineering discipline, or HNC with substantial relevant experience.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
