The role
As a Design Engineer - Refit Support Equipment, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. The group is responsible for delivering a Technical Authority and Design Agency function, supporting the various business units within Devonport Royal Dockyard and MoD establishments.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll provide technical engineering support and advice and undertake design activities relating to Refit Support Equipment that interfaces with submarine reactor plant fluid systems and other ship/facility systems.

 

  • Working within a team of Engineers, planning and organising tasks and facilitating progress against defined objectives
  • Production and where appropriate, checking of design documentation (reports, drawings and analyses), throughout the full design lifecycle (start-up, concept, scheme, detailed and implementation phases)
  • Provision of advice, as directed by line management, on the implementation and maintenance of design documentation and compliance with relevant codes, standards and legislation
  • Representing Refit Support Equipment Group Technical Authority by leading on-site visits and where appropriate, providing guidance and leadership to contract staff
  • Provision of through-life technical support for refit support assets
  • Provision of technical support, advice, guidance and resolutions to optioneering studies, design reviews, HAZOPS etc.

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

 

Essential experience of the Design Engineer - Refit Support Equipment

  • Understanding of mechanical engineering principles for the design, operation and maintenance of pressure/pipework systems
  • Understanding of the requirements for Refit Support Equipment connected to various classes of submarine
  • Knowledge of the design lifecycle
  • Knowledge of the general regulations, legislation and standards that are applicable to nuclear process and pressure system design
  • Technical experience with one or more of the following: Pressure systems, CAD, component engineering simulation, system fluid flow analysis, submarine system design

 

Qualifications for the Design Engineer - Refit Support Equipment

  • FdSc/HND or equivalent in a mechanical/process engineering discipline, or HNC with substantial relevant experience.

 

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) and Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
