The Deputy HR Director is based within our Devonport Royal Dockyard business area.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy’s new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme.

The role
The difference our new Deputy HR Director will make
As a Deputy HR Director you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary.
This could be a once in a career opportunity to work at a very large site and deal with complex people matters to achieve the best business outcomes.
Day to day, you’ll lead the HR Business Partner team, setting performance targets, coaching and developing team members and providing high quality HR support to the business. You will build strong relationships with all parts of the HR function, but notably Subject Matter Experts and People Centre, ensuring a well-developed mutual understanding of requirements and constraints which supports the joined-up delivery of HR strategy.
You will play a key role in shaping and driving our people agenda throughout 2023 and beyond, whilst being a visible role model for our Babcock Purpose & Principles and leading on strategic and complex HR matters.

Essential experience
- Experience working as part of a leadership team at senior level coupled with the effective management of HR teams, testing and challenging the status quo
- Experience of leading an HR conversation across a large, diverse and complex organisation, business unit or division, delivering all aspects of partnering.
- Be a natural communicator and adept at influencing, forging relationships across the site and function to allow meaningful and effective collaboration.
- Proven knowledge of Employment Law theory and implementation, HR practices, combined with experience in change management.
- Evidence of leading Employee and Industrial Relations success.
