As a Configuration Management Lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and advancing the configuration management discipline across our Marine Sector Engineering teams. This is your opportunity to influence some of the most complex engineering programmes in the country—supporting the design, build and through‑life support of cutting‑edge warships that help protect national security.
You’ll act as a subject matter expert, developing capability, providing governance and assurance, and ensuring that every component—from nuts and bolts to major systems—can be traced, understood, and effectively supported throughout the vessel’s lifecycle. It’s a role that directly contributes to operational readiness and engineering excellence, while offering exceptional scope for professional development and long‑term career growth within a world‑class engineering organisation.
Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
- Provide subject matter expertise and mentoring on configuration management across engineering teams.
- Deliver governance and assurance activities to ensure configuration integrity across key projects.
- Liaise with design, engineering, logistics and other stakeholders throughout the design lifecycle to ensure coordination and functionality.
- Maintain and develop configuration management capability, ensuring processes and tools are consistent and fit for purpose.
- Support design reviews and the creation of accurate product configuration models and maintenance documentation.
This position is full‑time at 35 hours per week and can be based at Devonport, Bristol or Rosyth. Hybrid working patterns are available.
Essential experience of the Configuration Management Lead:
- Extensive experience within engineering environments across the full product lifecycle.
- Strong expertise in configuration assessment and management for complex engineered products.
- Knowledge of ISO 10007 and relevant regulatory and legislative frameworks.
- Skilled in developing detailed, fit‑for‑purpose Configuration Management Plans.
- Strong people leadership and communication skills with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
Qualifications for the Configuration Management Lead:
- Degree qualified in an engineering discipline, or extensive relevant experience.
- Membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g., IMechE, RINA, IET, Institute of Configuration Management) and Chartered status, or the ability to achieve it.
- Hold or be willing to achieve CM2 Certification.

The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
