The role

As a Training and Competency Coordinator, you’ll play a vital role in developing the skills, capability and readiness of the Submarine Commissioning Group. This is an exciting opportunity to support teams working on some of the UK’s most critical defence assets, helping ensure the workforce has the right training, experience and documentation to carry out specialist commissioning activities safely and effectively.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll shape and deliver training courses, support competency assessment, work closely with subject matter experts, and introduce new ways to embed experiential learning across the dockyard and other environments.

 

  • Ensure Submarine Commissioning Group personnel have accurate documentation to record and demonstrate their training and experience.
  • Develop and deliver training courses, including coaching, mentoring and learning support materials.
  • Work collaboratively with commissioning subject matter experts to build and refine technical training content.
  • Identify opportunities to expand experiential learning across the dockyard and external environments.
  • Support the Capability team to strengthen training governance, competency assurance and continuous improvement.

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

 

Essential experience of the Training and Competency Coordinator

  • Background in training and competency development.
  • Ability to work effectively with subject matter experts to develop technical training materials.
  • Demonstrated alignment with Babcock’s Purpose and Principles.
  • Willingness to undertake instructional delivery training if not already held.
  • (Desirable) Knowledge of submarine electrical systems and understanding of commissioning activities relating to safety.

 

Qualifications for the Training and Competency Coordinator

  • Level 3 qualification or equivalent in a relevant discipline, with membership of an appropriate professional institution.
  • Educational or competency assessment qualifications - Desirable

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
