The role
As a Commercial Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Babcock is seeking a skilled and dedicated Commercial Manager to join the Naval Nuclear Commercial Team, contributing expertise to the £1bn plus Major Infrastructure Project (MIP) portfolio at Devonport Royal Dockyard, with a focus on supporting NEC4 construction projects.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll provide commercial expertise and governance to internal stakeholders, ensuring oversight of MOD tenders, contract reviews, compliance with processes, and proactive risk management for successful delivery.  

 

  • Build strong customer relationships to negotiate price, NEC4 terms, and scope confidently.
  • Oversee change order production for Qualifying Defence Contract’s (QDC), ensuring robust Appropriate Attributable and Reasonable (AAR) evidence supports contract changes.
  • Act as the escalation point for high-risk commercial issues.
  • Advise on NEC4 terms and conditions for clients and suppliers, ensuring process compliance.
  • Contribute to budget management and project reporting for business and commercial profit and loss.

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week is based on site at our Rosyth site in Scotland with regular travel to Devonport Royal Dockyard, in Plymouth, England alongside home working arrangements.

 

Essential experience of the Commercial Manager

  • Significant commercial experience in large and complex MOD contracts, bids and change initiatives in a regulated environment.
  • Working knowledge of MOD contract terms.
  • Demonstrable evidence of developing effective customer relationships and confident at negotiating independently within agreed delegations
  • Good communication, presentation, networking and negotiation skills.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to identify commercial risks, propose steps to mitigate, and communicate effectively.

 

Qualifications for the Commercial Manager 

  • Degree-level education in a relevant field, such as Business, Law, MRICS, or MCIOB, or equivalent qualifications/experience.
  • World Commerce and Contracting (WCC) certification (formerly IACCM) is highly desirable.

 

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
