The role
As a Chief Engineer Submarine Weapons and Complex Systems, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is an exciting opportunity for an established Engineering Leader in this or a related field to assume a key role in Babcock's contribution to the Submarine Enterprise. You will directly contribute to sustaining engineering support to Naval Operations and the provision of safe, available and capable submarines.  

 

Day-to-day, you’ll provide critical engineering oversight, guidance and direction for the weapons and complex systems elements of our submarine maintenance, repair and operational support activity for the Royal Navy. Key activities include:
• Working with the MoD customer within the Submarine Delivery Agency to understand the Design Authority requirements for engineering support to deployed submarine weapons and complex systems.
• Providing assurance and oversight to individual submarine maintenance projects
• The conduct of technical reviews
• Capability sustainment for this specialist domains such that engineering activity on submarine weapon systems is conducted by suitably qualified and experienced in accordance with the client’s competency requirements.
• Identifying new initiatives to provide future engineering support for the SDA’s mission

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

 

Essential experience of the Chief Engineer Submarine Weapons and Complex Systems:
• Experience and knowledge of submarine engineering 
• Experience in customer-facing roles and ability to communicate across all levels of stakeholder
• Strong experience of leading, training and mentoring engineering teams and/or as a project lead engineer
• Demonstrable experience of engineering projects and overcoming engineering challenges 
• Experience in developing engineering capability 
• Experience with technical investigations, reviews and assessment 
• Experience in system engineering and design reviews

 

Qualifications for the Chief Engineer Submarine Weapons and Complex Systems:

• You'll need a first degree in an engineering or science discipline or demonstrable equivalent experience
• Membership of a relevant professional institution (i.e. IET, IMechE etc.)
• Chartered Engineer status, or working towards it
