The role

As a CapEx Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and governing the capital investment portfolio that underpins some of the most important engineering and defence operations in the UK.

 

Day-to-day, your expertise will help strengthen financial decision‑making, optimise investment performance and directly support the sustainability and strategic direction of a site that plays a critical role in UK defence.

 

  • Leading the planning, budgeting and financial oversight of capital investment projects across the Devonport site.
  • Collaborating with engineering, operations, finance and project delivery teams to assess feasibility and ensure alignment with strategic goals.
  • Developing and maintaining robust business case formats and ensuring compliance with Babcock’s Delegation of Authority framework.
  • Creating and managing detailed budget models to support investment decisions and long‑term portfolio planning.
  • Monitoring CAPEX performance, preparing high‑quality financial reporting, and providing clear updates to senior stakeholders.

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

 

Essential experience of the CapEx Manager

  • Strong experience in capital project management, financial planning, investment analysis and CAPEX business case development.
  • Advanced analytical and technical capability, including financial modelling and the use of tools such as Excel, Power BI, Tableau, Primavera, MS Project and SAP.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a collaborative and influential approach.
  • Strong strategic and commercial thinking, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • High level of financial discipline, accuracy and attention to detail across reporting, cost management, scheduling and risk control.

 

Qualifications for the CapEx Manager

  • Degree‑level education or demonstrable equivalent experience in a business change or relevant discipline.
  • Professional certifications such as PMP, CPA or CIMA - Desirable

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
