As an Assistant Welding Quality Assurance and Control Engineer, you’ll support the delivery and continual improvement of our Quality Management System, ensuring welding and engineering activities meet rigorous quality, safety and regulatory standards. This is a hands‑on role where attention to detail, technical understanding and collaboration are key.
Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with engineering and production teams, supporting inspections, documentation, surveillance activities and corrective actions. It’s an excellent opportunity to build your quality engineering career within a highly regulated environment, developing specialist skills while contributing to safe, compliant and efficient project delivery across defence and nuclear programmes.
- Supporting quality management activities, helping implement and maintain ISO‑aligned QMS procedures
- Assisting inspections and compliance checks, reviewing documentation and supporting internal surveillance
- Monitoring corrective and preventive actions, following up with engineering and production teams
- Analysing quality data, identifying trends, deviations and opportunities for improvement
- Collaborating with stakeholders, contributing to safe, compliant welding and engineering delivery
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
here is an opportunity for Optimised Working Patterns (OWP) within this role. OWP is a temporary variation to your standard terms and condition that commits you to support 7-day working arrangements. For full details of the patterns, pay and durations, this can be found in the OWP 1 and OWP 2 agreements (available from hiring manager).
Primarily, it involves 4-week shift cycles consisting of either day/back shift or day/night shift.
Essential experience of the Assistant Welding Quality Assurance and Control Engineer
- Experience using quality management systems or document control tools such as SharePoint or SAP
- Basic knowledge of inspection techniques, engineering drawings and product specifications
- Understanding of quality control procedures and regulatory or industry standards
- Ability to analyse quality data and support problem‑solving activities
- Experience working to deadlines while managing multiple tasks
Qualifications for the Assistant Welding Quality Assurance and Control Engineer
- Craft apprenticeship, City and Guilds, or equivalent qualification in an engineering or fabrication discipline
- Working knowledge of quality frameworks such as ISO 9001 or ISO 3834‑2 - Desirable
- Exposure to quality improvement or internal surveillance activities – Advantageous

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
