As an Assistant Project Manager Buildings, you’ll support the successful delivery of complex building and infrastructure projects within our Major Infrastructure Projects directorate. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your project management career while working on technically challenging programmes in a highly regulated environment.
Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with experienced Project and Package Managers, contributing to the management of building design packages and helping deliver changes across key stages of major projects. Your work will directly support facilities that sustain ship and submarine programmes, making a tangible difference to national defence while building valuable experience and professional capability.
- Supporting the Package Manager in delivering building design packages to agreed scope, cost and schedule
- Managing elements of project delivery across RIBA stages 2–5
- Coordinating design changes and interfacing with internal teams, suppliers and client stakeholders
- Monitoring progress, risks and documentation within a controlled project environment
- Contributing to effective governance, reporting and compliance within a regulated site
This role is full time 35, hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Assistant Project Manager Buildings
- Experience working within a project environment managing civil and/or mechanical design packages
- Knowledge of NEC4 contracts, ideally within a client‑side or delivery role
- Experience working in highly regulated environments, such as nuclear, defence or infrastructure
- Familiarity with complex document management and technical assurance processes
- An organised approach with strong stakeholder communication and coordination skills
Qualifications for the Assistant Project Manager Buildings
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline - Desirable
- APM Project Fundamentals Qualification, Project Management Qualification or equivalent - Desirable
- Relevant project or engineering experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications
