The role

As an Access Officer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is an opportunity to work in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment where attention to detail and professionalism make a real difference to national security and operational success.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll be the first point of contact for all visitors and employees entering the Royal Devonport Dockyard - a site critical to the UK’s naval operations. Your role ensures that access is managed securely and efficiently, supporting compliance with Ministry of Defence requirements. 

 

  • Deliver a professional customer service as the gateway to the Devonport site
  • Provide an efficient counter service ensuring compliance with MOD contract requirements
  • Process site access applications, including VIP visits and pass renewals
  • Identify and implement process improvements for efficiency and value for money
  • Promote team ethos and strive to meet contractual Key Performance Indicators

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard. You may be required to work a morning shift including 06:30 – 14:30, Mon – Thursday and 06:30 – 11:30 on a Friday.

 

Essential experience of the Access Officer

  • Good knowledge of IT systems
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ideally, experience in a security-related role (advantageous but not essential)
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a busy environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

 

Qualifications for the Access Officer

  • GCSEs in Maths and English (preferred)
  • NVQ in Customer Service (advantageous)

 

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
