The role

As a Communications Engineer you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. The Defence High Frequency Communications Service (DHFCS) is a British military communication system operated by Babcock and used predominately by the UK Armed Forces, as well as other authorised users. In this exciting role, you'll be required to carry out preventative and corrective maintenance at the Cyprus site, ensuring that the transmitters, receivers (site dependant) and associated control equipment perform to operational requirements.

 

Day to day, you’ll support the engineering team in all operational and technical matters.

 

  • Carry out planned maintenance work on transmitters, receivers and associated control equipment including Fault Analysis & repairs as part of the engineering team.

  • Maintain technical and administrative records and provide information as required.

  • Safety and Health of self and others who may be affected by work activities.

  • Conduct Flight-watch and Crypto duties when required.

  • Observing safe working practices as advised and instructed.

  • Report incidents or hazards which have led or may lead to injury.

  • Carry out lone working, on call and key holder duties at appropriate sites, in accordance with Babcock Health and Safety instructions and demonstrate flexibility by multi-skilling in other departments as necessary

 

This role is a full time, 37 hours, and will be based on site at the Western Sovereign Base areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia on the island of Cyprusl.

 

Essential experience of the Communications Engineer:

  • Possess basic knowledge of data communications and networking technologies.

  • Experience of work with fixed high Power Transmitters as required for specific sites.

  • Competent in solving technical issues and aware of future technical developments

  • Experience of work in HF communications and Telecommunications.

 

Qualifications for the Communications Engineer:

  • Full Driving License

  • Qualified to BTEC National Diploma in Engineering (Electronic / Electrical) or equivalent

 

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain  Developed Vetting (DV)  security clearance for this role.
