Clyde

The Commissioning Group Combat Systems Test Engineer is based within our Clyde business area.

As the Ministry of Defence’s commercial partner at HMNB Clyde, Babcock provides specialist engineering support services, including the management of infrastructure and nuclear facilities. We also deliver operational maintenance, upgrades, and repairs to support Royal Navy vessels, including the Vanguard and Astute-Class nuclear submarines.

As a Commissioning Group Combat Systems Test Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team where your skills and experience will make an impact.

 

Day to day, conduct Submarine Commissioning, Testing and Calibration activities in accordance with the Clyde Safety Management Arrangements. You’ll liaise with ship staff and carry out trials. Once tasks have been completed by the Fitters, you’ll conduct tests before handing over to the Navy, this can include- Combat systems, Sonar, Communications, Fibre, and Networks. You’ll also support implementation of the Company Safety, Quality and Environmental policies in the Commissioning Group area of the business, ensuring that risks assessments are carried out for safe working practices and attitudes. You’ll support the writing of Test Forms/procedures and assist the Senior Test Engineer in maximising the utilisation and the efficiency of the Test Engineers.

Essential experience

  • NVQ 3 minimum in a relevant field
  • HNC of Electrical/Electronic or equivalent experience such as a Recognised Apprenticeship
  • Working knowledge of combat systems and equipment (electrical)
  • Must already hold or be able to obtain relevant SC clearance
