Here at Babcock International we’re looking to recruit a Learning Technologist. This role, working within the Media team at MoD Lyneham, requires all of these talents and many more.

 

Based at MoD Lyneham, the Media team provide content creation services and technology enhanced learning guidance to the Defence School of Electro-Mechanical Engineering (DSEME). Working in collaboration with the Customer and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), the Media team create and develop digital and print materials to enhance and support solider training.

 

As part of the Media team, Learning Technologists provide a range of capability and support. To the Customer and SMEs they offer technical guidance, supporting the development of courseware and the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). For the Media team, their teaching expertise helps shape the materials the designers create and enables the analytical assessment of media assets once deployed into training.

 

Main Tasks

 

TECHNOLOGY ENHANCED LEARNING ADVOCATE

  • Ensure TEL is being used to its full potential across the training delivery service. Encourage further adoption by Identifying, researching and proposing equipment/software improvements that would benefit training and service delivery
  • Provide advice, guidance and support on the use of technology in the design and creation of learning content through workshops, delivery of courses, one-off consultations or collaborative projects
  • Maintain a high awareness of new and emerging learning technologies and media
  • Work with T2D to align TEL development with Trainer skill improvement

 

CREATING NEW MEDIA & COURSEWARE

  • Identify, support and implement the creation of new multimedia training materials in collaboration with Course Design (CD) and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), ensuring correct application of the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Evidence improvements with analytical reporting and feedback

 

VLE EXPERTISE

  • Create and deliver VLE training to Trainers enabling and empowering them to be more positive, competent and creative in the use of the VLE
  • Escalate and support the repair technical issues with the VLE to the Authority
  • Undertake VLE development activities in line with SOPs and strategic VLE progression
  • Conduct quality checks on all e-learning materials to ensure full VLE and Web compliance

 

What do I need to do the role?

 

The successful candidate will be happy working on multiple projects at any one time, actively communicating with stakeholders of all levels to ensure the timely delivery of training projects and support. You will enjoy working as a team, working in unison with the second Learning Technologist and Media colleagues.

 

You will be self-motivated, capable of building high-quality e-learning packages and training materials aligned to current teaching and learning standards. With an analytical eye, you will review the introduction of new training materials, highlighting successes and future improvements.

 

To be successful, the right person will be able to provide proven knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm for the position. Your career would showcase a range of experience in relatable industry roles and how you have developed professionally.

 

You would be able to articulate an appreciation of the military environment and how that might affect your established working practices, and exhibit examples and understanding of the essential list of attributes detailed in the job description.


Technical Experience and Qualifications


Essential:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification or 3 years’ experience working in a digital learning environment
  • Experience of working within a Virtual Learning Environment (preferably Moodle)
  • Pedagogical knowledge
  • Experience of rapid development tools (e.g. Articulate, Storyline)
  • Experience of audio, image and video production
  • Experience of design and/or production of multimedia learning objects

 

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the course design process IAW requirements of JSP822
  • Knowledge of DSAT (Defence Systems Approach to Training)
  • Understanding of programming, web development and web design, including knowledge of XML, CSS3, HTML5, PHP and JavaScript
  • Experiential knowledge of SCORM 1.2 & Tin Can/xAPI
  • Experience of training individuals/groups in the use of new technologies and systems
