The Role
As a Technical Author, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary, you’ll be responsible for the delivery of Technical Documentation requirements for some of the most challenging and interesting defence programs which support the UK Armed Forces and its global equivalents.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll be expected to research and analyse complex technical information and translate this analysis into high quality technical documentation, enabling end-users to operate and maintain military equipment correctly and safely in all operating conditions.

 

  • Develop skills in both structured and unstructured documentation which complies with both international and customer specific specifications. 
  • Structure content in compliance with the international specification for Technical Publications using a common source database, ASD-S1000D Issue 4.1. 
  • Develop non-structured content using MS Word in compliance with UK MOD Technical Publication Standards. 
  • Capability of producing high quality graphics.

 

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides flexible hybrid working arrangements with working days onsite and days working from home.

 

Essential Experience of the Technical Author

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external customers, taking the lead where necessary.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with the confidence and ability to communicate at all levels with both customers and stakeholders.
  • Ability to contribute to multiple technical projects which embrace the holistic capability that the S1000D specification can support.

 

Be familiar with:

  • Desktop publishing including XML Text Editors, Adobe Acrobat and MS Office.
  • Digital imaging software.
  • Computer Aided Design software.
  • Spreadsheets.

 

Qualifications for the Technical Author 

  • You will be educated with a minimum of an HNC (or equivalent) in an Engineering discipline and ideally you will have developed some practical experience in mechanical / electrical skills.

 

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
