The Role
As a Technical Accounting and Governance Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Supporting on all aspects of financial reporting and control across the Marine sector, as well as being a key point of contact for technical accounting guidance for senior stakeholders in the sector finance teams.

Day-to-day, you’ll cover a wide range of Financial Reporting & Governance activities, including project managing external and internal audits, improving and enforcing the internal controls framework, and preparing and reviewing accounting technical papers:

  • Key individual for organisation & co-ordination of external & internal audit for Sector.
  • Supporting the Financial Controller with preparation and review of technical accounting papers.
  • Assisting with the preparation of the half year and year end governance packs such as document of controls and letter of representation.
  • Overseeing compliance with the group contract review policy for key trading contracts.
  • Collaborating with and providing support to the sector FP&A team.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week. It requires regular travel to a Babcock office on a weekly basis alongside home working arrangements. The team are split between the Bristol and Plymouth offices meaning both locations are suitable.

Essential Experience of the Technical Accounting and Governance Manager:

  • Demonstrable experience of working in practice (e.g. audit).
  • Ability to understand and manipulate data to present clear and concise financial messages for review.
  • Ability to ensure deadlines and targets are achieved or surpassed.
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of industry and regulatory standards in respect to financial reporting.
  • Technical skills including long term commercial contracts (IFRS 15).

Qualifications for the Technical Accounting and Governance Manager: 

  • You must hold a recognised professional accounting qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA) or equivalent / similar.
