The role
As a Supportability Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Have you ever considered how many individual components, systems and interfaces there are in the most complex man-made engineering asset in use by the Royal Navy today?

We manage this complexity on a daily basis by ensuring that the maintenance regimes and support arrangements of Royal Navy submarine systems and equipment are continually relevant and fit for purpose.

Day to day, you’ll manage complex assets on a daily basis by undertaking activities that underpin their safe maintenance and operation:

  • You will assess the design, through Availability Reliability and Maintainability modelling and analysing deviations from design intent whilst maintaining the design intent, through scheduling and management of maintenance items and offering design information support.
  • Undertake engineering analysis to support all sectors within the Babcock Engineering team to inform planning, monitoring and analysis.
  • Be responsible for delivery of engineering projects to agreed contractual requirements whilst aiming to push the boundaries to improve capability and seek out opportunities.
  • Responsible for supporting the Senior Whole Boat Engineer, as directed, in the review of processes and/or ways of working to ensure they reflect current approaches as well as implementing identified continuous improvement activities or wider changes to processes.

This role is a full-time position and will be based at our North Bristol offices, with a hybrid working arrangement.

Essential experience of the Supportability Engineer:

  • The ability to understand and deliver technical requirements
  • Experience within the Defence Industry and an understanding of MOD working practices.
  • Experience of Royal Navy submarines from a design, maintenance, or operational perspective.
  • Proficient in the use of appropriate IT tools (especially MS Word, MS Excel and MS Project).
