The role
As a Senior Project Controls Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Joining the team responsible for the delivery of a new electro-magnetic warfare system that will enhance Royal Navy warships, you will lead a team of up to 9 Project Controllers and Schedulers through the next stages of delivery. 

 

Day-to-day, you’ll guide a dedicated team in delivering high-quality project controls across risk, cost, and scheduling. In this pivotal role, you’ll manage and mentor the team, engage with senior stakeholders, and oversee programme delivery to ensure everything runs smoothly and efficiently.

 

  • Establish and maintain project controls governance, processes, and procedures in line with internal standards and customer contract requirements.
  • Define the Performance Measurement Baseline for scope, cost, and schedule, and ensure ongoing governance and control.
  • Lead scheduling staff in developing, managing, and analysing integrated project schedules across all execution phases, including coordination with partners and sub-suppliers.
  • Oversee the delivery of cost management, change control, risk and opportunity management, and document management through the project controls team.
  • Provide accurate, timely internal and external reporting to support informed decision-making and maintain a clear view of project status and forecasts.

 

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2-3 days in the office/onsite and 2-3 days working from home. This role requires regular travel across of internal and customer sites on a weekly to monthly basis. 

 

Essential experience of the Senior Project Controls Manager 

  • You have solid experience managing project controls teams, providing leadership and direction to ensure effective delivery across all key functions including risk, cost and scheduling. Your collaborative approach supports team development and high performance.
  • You’ve worked on complex and major projects or programmes, applying your expertise to navigate challenges and drive successful outcomes in demanding environments.
  • Your knowledge spans all core project controls disciplines, including planning, cost, risk, performance (EVM), change, and configuration management, enabling a comprehensive approach to project delivery.
  • You’ve successfully implemented and assured project controls governance, ensuring consistency, compliance, and continuous improvement across project lifecycles.
  • Proficient in tools such as MSP, Primavera P6, RiskHive, and SAP, you combine technical capability with a strong focus on outcomes, motivating teams to work toward shared goals.
