The role

As a Senior Human Factors Engineer, you’ll have a unique opportunity to influence the design and integration of systems that are vital to national defence, ensuring they are intuitive, safe, and effective for the people who operate and maintain them. Working within Babcock’s expanding Mission Systems business, you’ll lead Human Factors Integration activities, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and engage directly with customers and suppliers. Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

 

  • Lead and deliver Human Factors Integration activities across  military satellite communications programme.
  • Apply human-centred design principles to ensure systems are operable, maintainable, and safe.
  • Undertake Human Factors analyses such as task analysis, workload assessments, usability evaluations, and human error analysis.
  • Collaborate closely with internal multidisciplinary teams and external suppliers.
  • Liaise with customers as the HF point of contact.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of HF capability within the business.

 

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with days in the office and days working from home.

 

Essential experience of the Senior Human Factors Engineer

  • Proven experience applying Human Factors principles and methods within defence, aerospace, or other complex regulated industries.
  • Experience delivering Human Factors Integration activities throughout the engineering lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with defence standards such as DEF STAN 00-251, JSP 912, Human Factors Integration frameworks, or equivalent industry standards.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working effectively with multidisciplinary teams, customers, and external partners.

 

Qualifications for the Senior Human Factors Engineer

  • Degree in Human Factors, Ergonomics, Psychology, or a related discipline.

 

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.  Sole UK Nationals.
