The Role
As a Senior Configuration Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be supporting the design phase with the first tranche of equipment entering service in 2026, and progress this to ensure that configuration is managed effectively throughout the product lifecycle for the multiple different configurations that will exist through the in-service phase.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll play a pivotal role in managing and overseeing the configuration management processes for our mission-critical systems and projects.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain configuration management plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure the integrity and consistency of configuration data and oversee the configuration status accounting and reporting processes.
  • Manage configuration control boards (CCBs) and facilitate configuration audits and reviews.
  • Coordinate with engineering, quality assurance, and project management teams to ensure compliance with configuration management standards.
  • Provide guidance and training to team members on configuration management best practices.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to configuration management.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is adaptable and can be delivered from various locations including Portsmouth, Tewksbury, Plymouth and wider Bristol as well as working from home arrangements.

 

 

Essential Experience of the Senior Configuration Manager

  • Significant years of experience in configuration management, preferably within the defence or aerospace industry.
  • Strong knowledge of configuration management standards and practices (e.g., Def Stan 05-57, ISO 10007, CMMI).
  • Proficiency in configuration management tools and software.

 

Qualifications for the Senior Configuration Manager 

  • Formal qualifications in Engineering (min level 5) such as HNC/HND or equivalent experience.
  • Certification in Configuration Management (e.g., CMII, CMPIC) is a plus.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
