The role
As a Project Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in one of the UK’s most significant and iconic programmes supporting the delivery of innovative weapons‑handling equipment for the new‑build Dreadnought submarine programme. This is an opportunity to shape solutions that protect national security, contribute to global stability, and support the Royal Navy for decades to come.
You’ll join our Mission Systems business, a trusted provider of integrated solutions across intelligence, surveillance, communications and handling systems where you’ll lead the successful design, manufacture, and delivery of complex engineering equipment. Your work will directly influence operational capability, programme outcomes, and the performance of a multidisciplinary team.
Day-to-day, you’ll:
- Lead project delivery across planning, scheduling, financial management, risk management and reporting.
- Guide and motivate a small project team, fostering collaboration, professional development and high performance.
- Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, quality and customer stakeholders to ensure programme milestones are achieved.
- Oversee profit/loss accountability, project governance, and compliance with safety and quality requirements.
- Uphold Babcock values and act as a role model in leadership behaviours and decision‑making.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and <provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days onsite (Tuesday and Thursday) and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Project Manager
- Experience managing challenging or complex delivery projects in a relevant environment (5-10 years’ experience).
- Experience within engineering projects (mechanical, electrical systems is advantageous).
- Background in defence or other regulated industries preferred.
- Experience leading or managing a delivery team.
- Strong track record of delivering against time, cost and quality requirements.
Qualifications for the Project Manager
- Association for Project Management qualification (APM) – desirable.
- Engineering‑related qualifications – desirable.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Must be a Sole UK National.
