The Royal Navy rely on our engineering, project management and digital teams to keep their submarines at sea and submariners safe. They Protect our Nation and we help to Protect them.

At Babcock we have a true culture of opportunity – with business contracts that last decades and structured career development pathways that can take you in all kinds of directions; you will grow, develop, and achieve more than you ever thought possible.  There has never been a better time for you to join Babcock Submarine Support and play your part in protecting the protectors.

The Role

As a Project Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in transforming how submarine maintenance programmes are planned and delivered. Moving beyond traditional task-based maintenance, you'll take a platform-focused approach, overseeing the early scoping, planning and coordination of complex Fleet Time maintenance projects for specific submarines.

Working closely with Ministry of Defence stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams across Babcock, you'll ensure maintenance programmes are effectively planned, risks are managed, and project milestones are achieved. This is an exciting opportunity to lead projects that directly contribute to national security while developing your career in one of the UK's leading defence, aerospace and engineering organisations.

What you’ll do:

  • Drive Fleet Time maintenance projects for assigned submarines through scoping, planning and readiness activities, ensuring project objectives and key milestones are achieved.
  • Coordinate maintenance management, advanced planning and enablement activities to support the Submarine Support Management Plan and platform availability.
  • Lead the development and completion of project planning artefacts, ensuring they are delivered to the required standard and support successful project gate reviews.
  • Manage project risks, actions, recommendations and opportunities, implementing effective mitigation plans and ensuring timely closure of key activities.
  • Collaborate with Ministry of Defence teams and a wide range of internal stakeholders to develop optimised project scope, plans and delivery solutions.

What you’ll need:

  • Degree, Higher National Certificate, or equivalent qualification in a relevant management, leadership or commercial discipline.
  • Alternatively, significant relevant industry experience supported by appropriate professional qualifications and memberships
  • Demonstrable project management and planning experience with a track record of delivering complex projects successfully.
  • Experience managing projects across the full lifecycle, from initial planning and bidding through to completion.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong stakeholder management experience across complex organisational environments.
  • Experience identifying, assessing and managing project risks and opportunities.
