The role

As a Naval Architect, you’ll be at the forefront of submarine design and support, applying your specialist expertise to sustain and enhance the capability of the UK’s current and next-generation submarine fleet. This is a rare opportunity to make a direct impact on national security, working on some of the most complex and strategically important engineering challenges in the defence sector.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll apply specialist expertise in submarine naval architecture to deliver technical solutions that sustain and enhance the capability of the UK’s current and next generation submarine fleet.

 

  • Delivering technical solutions that ensure the safety and performance of submarine platforms
  • Conducting stability analyses and supporting submarine stability experiments
  • Producing calculations and guidance for safe docking and manoeuvring
  • Developing tailored engineering toolsets and procedures
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders including MoD clients and suppliers

 

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.

 

Essential experience of the Naval Architect

  • Experience working on complex engineering projects, gained through education or employment, within sectors such as shipbuilding, submarine design, aerospace systems, or other high-integrity structural environments
  • Proficiency in tools such as Paramarine, Ansys, MATLAB, Orcaflex, AutoCAD/Inventor
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

 

Qualifications for the Naval Architect

  • Degree (BSc, BEng, MSc, or MEng) in Naval Architecture, Marine Technology, Ship Science, or a related STEM discipline

 

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
