The role

As a Mission Systems Engineer, you’ll help shape the next generation of complex naval platforms by contributing to the development of ship designs and mission system integrations. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of defence, aerospace and engineering—where your expertise directly enhances national security and supports the Royal Navy’s operational capability.

Your work will support concept development, early-stage design and major bids—giving you high-impact experience that will accelerate your professional growth and broaden your engineering capability.

Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:

  • Supporting customer engagement to develop and agree clear and unambiguous system requirements.
  • Generating and assessing sensor and weapon suite options for concept designs.
  • Taking ownership of mission system compartments or systems through design stages.
  • Supporting the specification, selection and management of external suppliers and services.
  • Applying Mission Systems/Combat Systems Engineering principles within a multidisciplinary team.

This is a full‑time position. The role is based at Devonport, Bristol or Rosyth. Hybrid working patterns are available (two days per week onsite).

Essential experience of the Mission Systems Engineer:

  • Experience integrating Combat, Communications, Navigation or Network Systems into marine platforms.
  • Ability to work effectively within multi‑discipline teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
