Job Title:  LAND IT Senior Business Analyst  

Reports to:  Head of Projects & Governance

Roles Reporting to this role:  x2 (Potential for Contractors in future)

Location:  Aztec West

Business Unit: Land Sector – IT Department

 

Purpose of role:    To act as a liaison between the business and the IT function.  Work with the Business Analyst team to ensure the capturing of quality business requirements documents, ensuring the business analysis methodology is fit for purpose and resources are utilised affectively across the portfolio of complex IT Projects. Will be a subject matter expert in the user of Business Analysis tool kits, software and leading the team to deliver a valuable service.

Key Technical Skills / Experience:

  • 10+ years of Information Technology experience, 3+ years of Business architecture and design experience in enterprise business architecture
  • Working in a challenging and complex organisation and demonstrable experience of leading the management of organisational, business and technical change
  • Strong experience delivering the business requirements component for a complete business solution
  • Proven record delivering elements of a enterprise class wholistic design to satisfy defeined business requirements using UML
  • Proven experience in managing, engaging and inspiring both technical teams and senior management to drive and deliver complex technology solutions
  • Must be able to work to tight deadlines within a bid environment
  • Experience of managing internal, external suppliers and other teams to deliver a successful solution
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in an Information Systems Field or preferably 5 to 10 years’ experience designing and/or implementing solutions
  • ISEB Business Analysis
  • ITIL Foundation v3
  • Experience designing and delivering solutions for IL3 and preferably above
  • A broad, enterprise-wide view of the business and varying degrees of appreciation for strategy, processes and capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance
  • The ability to apply architectural principles to business solutions
  • The ability to visualize and create high-level models that can be used in future analysis to extend and mature the business architecture
  • Experience modeling business processes using a variety of standards based tools and techniques
  • Experience with Sparx EA

Qualifications:

  • Educated to Degree level, within a relevant IT, business or management discipline

Major Tasks and Activities:

  • Manage the design and documentation of business requirements and work with the business application team to ensure the solution delivered meets the requirements
  • Responsible for the management and documentation of the business requirements to an agreed standard
  • Create and manage a business architecture roadmap
  • Actively research new business techniques and business technologies to support the agreed business roadmap
  • Analyse business requirements and document to the agreed standard
  • Evaluating cost benefit factors and budgetary/resource impacts
  • Key understanding of data, dataflows, security and users
  • Determining evaluation and acceptance criteria
  • Work in partnership with the Application team to select products for evaluation
  • Alignment of enterprise solutions with the business strategy for Defence & Security, and Group IT
  • Deliver the design of new services and new business with the business application and service delivery teams
  • Work collaboratively as a team to assess and evaluate new emerging products and work with suppliers and customers to ensure that the product adheres to established standards, policies, best practice and ultimately fit for purpose
  • Adhere to standard solution architecture methodology

Additional Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage and follow the processes, procedures and templates to ensure accurate capture of business requirements to enable the applications team to translate into technical specifications
  • Design, document and continually improve a robust business architecture using a recognised modelling tool and must be able to manage; Reference Models, Viewpoints, and Tools,  Baseline Business Architecture Description, Target Business Architecture Description, Perform Gap Analyses, Define Candidate Roadmap Components, Resolve Impacts Across the Architecture Landscape, Conduct Formal Stakeholder Reviews, Finalize the Business Architecture, Architecture Definition Document
  • Discuss and articulate solutions directly with the stakeholder community
  • Seek out new industry and technology trends and apply this knowledge to solve business problems
  • Ensure continuous improvement of the design process and documentation
  • Ensure the budget holder is aware of all budgets costs and recharges
  • Ensure you meet regularly with your line manager and complete the PDP process throughout the year
  • Work with the Solutions Architect to ensure you and your staff are fully trained to carry out their role, and encourage and support them to develop skills and knowledge to support the changing needed of the business
  • Active role in the Solutions team
  • Ensure you manage your time and your resources to deliver to agreed timescales for the activity for agreed projects
  • Deployment and implementation of Enterprise Architect Sparx to the Project Methodology.
