Higher Level Quality Technician Apprentice

Our apprenticeship programme is growing and we are looking for individuals to join our new Level 4 Quality Technician apprenticeship. Our Quality teams help our organization perform at its best by acting as the ‘voice of the customer’ to make sure the highest of standards. They help our organisation stay fit and healthy, through identifying problems and recommending improvements to ensure our policies, processes, and products perform at their best and are risk-free. Our team of Quality Technicians play an important role within the Quality Management function by providing day-to-day testing and oversight of policies and procedures to ensure the correct standards of specification.

 

As part of the 2 year apprenticeship you will earn a very competitive salary, valuable work experience and earn a recognised qualification at the same time.

 

Over the course of the 2 years you will work in 4 placements, three of which will be of a six month duration spent in either Supplier Quality, Production Quality or Project Quality. The fourth placement will be in Audit and Assurance and will last for 3 months. For the remainder of your apprenticeship you will work in your ‘responsible position’ in an area of the business you would like to continue your career.


Depending on your placement your typical day could range from carrying out external supplier inspections to looking for efficiencies or problem solving on our production shop floor to the administration of internal and external audits.


Whilst working you will attend one 2 hour training module per week which will be delivered virtually by our training provider. These interactive sessions will be supplemented with one to one coaching support which will consist of either face to face or remote sessions. In addition to studying for your apprenticeship you will also receive training and experience in the full range of quality tools and will undertake Lean Awareness training and the Yellow Belt qualification. All apprentices will also achieve Associate Membership of the Chartered Quality Institute.


Throughout your apprenticeship you will be supported by a mentor who is a senior Quality professional and in your first year you will be assigned a buddy who will help you settle into the business.

Desired qualifications

 

To apply you will need a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher (or equivalent) and 3 A Levels (Maths and Science desirable) at grade C or above or equivalent Level 3 qualification e.g. BTEC at Merit or Distinction.

 

Desired Prospects

 

The aim of the apprenticeship is to prepare you for a permanent Quality role working as an Assistant Quality Technician within DST. We are also committed to supporting further development of our ex-apprentices through further education and technical training.

 

This role is within the Marine Sector of Babcock International Group, which delivers a wide array of complex through-life marine engineering services to defence and civil customers across the globe. These range from UK and international naval fleet support, commercial marine, engineering consultancy, weapons handling, equipment support, intelligence, cyber security and training.
