The role

As a Finance Manager, you’ll provide senior‑level financial leadership to complex, defence‑critical submarine programmes within Babcock’s Nuclear Sector. This is not a routine accounting role. You’ll operate in a demanding environment governed by Ministry of Defence contracting rules, where strong judgement, credibility and commercial acumen are essential.

Day-to-day, you’ll influence strategic decision‑making through robust forecasting, earned value management and performance reporting, while supporting new contract proposals and continuous improvement of financial processes. With line management responsibilities and the opportunity to deputise for the Head of Finance, this role offers real breadth, impact and long‑term career development within a FTSE 100 organisation.

• Producing monthly accounts in line with company procedures and strict reporting deadlines
• Delivering performance and forecasting reports to senior leaders and Directors
• Supporting earned value management and estimates at completion for Ministry of Defence contracts
• Providing financial leadership to project teams, including budgeting and quarterly forecasts
• Leading and developing team members, while deputising for the Head of Finance when required

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 – 3 days per week in the office/onsite.

Essential experience of the Finance Manager

• Advanced Microsoft Excel and Office skills, with the ability to turn complex data into clear insight
• Strong analytical capability, able to communicate concise messages to senior stakeholders
• Proven experience delivering to tight deadlines in a pressured environment
• Confident communicator and collaborative team player with strong interpersonal skills
• Highly organised, proactive and disciplined in financial processes

Qualifications for the Finance Manager

• Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA or ACA)

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
