Engineering Technician Apprenticeship

Our well established Engineering Technician apprenticeship programme is dedicated to developing the next generation of fitters, inspectors and machinists. Within Babcock Defence Systems Technology (DST) we manufacture complex, high quality components which are integral to all of our designs. As part of your apprenticeship you will be supported in working on production standard items and you will be given the opportunity to gain experience in each of the machining and fitting areas within our manufacturing facility.

Overview

The aim of the Engineering Technician apprenticeship scheme is to prepare you for a manufacturing post within the company in either fitting, inspection or machining. In your first year after having been trained to use the machinery you will manufacture components using the bench fitting skills you have learnt.

In the second year you will undertake block placements within the production area becoming familiar with and use the machines used for manufacturing.

The final two years will be spent within the area you have chosen as your specialism. This allows you to become highly skilled and competent within this area, developing you into an integral part of the team.

Entry Requirements

You will need 5 GCSEs all at grade C/4 or above including Maths, English and a Science, or equivalent qualification.
