The Role
As an Engineering Skills Trainer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will have the opportunity to train and develop the next generation of engineers, passing on skills in a high complex low volume environment, providing products for defence of the realm.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll be part of the Manufacturing Maintenance Repair and Overhaul production team reporting to the Early Careers Lead. You will design and deliver the work-based training for the machinist, fitting and inspection apprentices and graduate engineers. Always Ensuring safety and discipline.

 

  • Ensuring the health and safety of the apprentices – The highest standards of health and safety must be installed into the apprentices. New technology and practices should also be reviewed to improve safety where possible.
  • Designing and Delivering Schemes of Works – The apprenticeship needs to be structured for the apprentices to gain the knowledge skills and behaviours to meet the apprenticeship standard, but also gain the relevant experience in their chosen discipline.
  • Maintaining discipline and wellbeing of apprentices – Apprentices are often in their first professional job. You will need to instil good work ethics and Babcock beliefs into them.
  • Evaluate work – Apprenticeships are a time for learning and development. The work they produce needs to be evaluate and feedback given. This could be in verbal or written formats.
  • Collaborative working with Further Education Provider – The work and training completed at work needs to support the college learning. You will need to work with Further Education to ensure this is done.
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics – Working with the early careers lead to design and complete sessions to attract new talent into Babcock through Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics outreach.


This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Ashton Vale, Bristol.

 

Agile working may be available to employees in some instances, applying the principles of fairness and consistency whilst ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met. Essential Experience and Qualifications of the Engineering Skills Trainer 

  • Knowledge in machining, and fitting.
  • National Vocational Qualifications Machining or Engineering Fitting.
  • Significant years of experience low volume, high complexity production.
  • Ability to programme Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines using various languages.

 

Desirable Experience and Qualifications of the Engineering Skills Trainer 

  • Certificate in Education and Training or equivalent, or completion within 18-months of appointment. 
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship standards.
     

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance for this role. However, you will be able to start on Standard (BPSS) security clearance but you will need to obtain Security Clearance (SC) in post.
