We currently have some exciting opportunities for Electrical / Electronics / Controls Engineers to join our engineering team working within Defence Systems Technology (DST), in Bristol. 


DST is a business unit within the Marine Sector of Babcock International Group.  It is responsible for a variety of complex, high integrity, engineering design, manufacture and support projects across a range of world-class defence platforms, including the new Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers and the new Dreadnought class submarines.  DST works with a number of key clients both domestically and internationally and has a presence at a number of sites in the UK and across the globe. 


The DST business continues to win new work and grow at a significant pace.  As a result of this, we are looking for talented, enthusiastic and driven people to join our growing team. 




The Launch Control System (LCS) team designs, builds and supports industry leading, high integrity control and monitoring products for use on maritime defence platforms. 


Working in a dynamic and supportive team environment, you will have the opportunity to further develop your skills in the design, development and integration of electrical and electronic hardware, software and systems.  You will be involved in a significant proportion of the overall product lifecycle, from requirements capture, through to on-platform commissioning and in-service support.

These roles exist at a number of grades; assistant engineer up to principal engineer and will be offered at the grade commensurate with the capability and experience of the candidate. 


Required Skills, Experience and Qualifications  


The successful candidate will require the following: 


  • HNC I Degree qualified in Electrical I Electronic / Controls engineering, Computing or similar related qualifications and experience.
  • Ability to work as a self-starting individual and as part of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A positive attitude with a desire to learn new skills and to work safely.
  • Successful candidates must be eligible to hold UK Security Clearance. 


The following skills and experience would be desirable but are not essential: 


  • Experience of ‘hands on’ commissioning and fault isolation on electrical / electronic / control systems.
  • Experience of requirements management.
  • Experience with development using Beckhoff PLC systems and IEC61131 programming.
  • Designing safety critical systems and architectures.
  • Experience of using CAD systems for schematic entry and 2D/3D design.
  • Motor and actuator control.
  • HMI/SCADA experience.
  • Experience of product development using a formal design process within an IS09001 environment and utilising configuration control, design reviews and technical documentation.
  • Design of maritime, defence or aerospace products. 




Bristol is a vibrant city in south west England with a wide range of attractions, landmarks, events and shopping.  It has excellent transport links and is only 1.5 hours from London by train. 




Successful candidates will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements and may be required to complete a medical assessment. 


The role will be in an environment regulated by Trade Control legislation and involve working with controlled goods, technology and/or services.  This may require you to meet enhanced security and regular screening checks.
