About the role

Working as part of our Defence Systems Technology (DST) business we’re looking for a Buyer to join us. DST forms a critical part of Babcock’s Marine organisation. Working across a range of exciting design, manufacture and support projects, our 1,500 strong team operate from a number of sites across the UK and internationally ensuring our global customer portfolio is always supported.

We are currently recruiting for a Buyer to join the MSSP Team based at BTC, Bristol.  In this role you will carry out procurement tasks for project team.  This will support all aspects of the project programme or any other programmes as directed.


Typical tasks and responsibilities include collaboration and partnering with project/engineering to understand requirements, processing requisitions, raising requests for quotation, raising purchase orders, order book management, supplier visits and order expediting.

 

What do I need to do the role?

Previous experience in a similar role, including manufacturing and/or engineering experience with machining/fabrication/estimating is desirable as well as marine defence experience.

 

You will be able to read engineering drawings and to understand and challenge design for manufacture as well as:

  • Experience and knowledge of forging and casting process
  • Experience and knowledge of machining methods
  • Proficient  IT skills, in particular, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Studying towards, or willing to study for, MCIPS qualification
  • Ability to assess and prioritise tasks effectively to ensure Customer demand is fulfilled on time in full.

 

Required Attributes:

  • Confident, self-motivated and with a flexible approach to workload.
  • Good communicator with the ability to establish strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A good understanding of the Company and Defence sector

 

You will also require a full UK driving licence.
