As part of our Mission Systems team, you’ll contribute to complex defence programmes that support the UK’s security and critical infrastructure. Working on high-profile projects such as submarine programmes, you’ll help deliver engineering excellence that truly makes a difference.
As an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll be embedded within one of our key programme teams, playing a vital role in delivering high-performance projects to our customers. This is an exciting opportunity to build your project management career within the defence, aerospace, and engineering sector, where your work supports meaningful and mission-critical outcomes.
You’ll gain exposure to the full project lifecycle, from planning through to delivery, while working alongside experienced professionals. This role offers the chance to develop your skills in scheduling, cost control, risk management, and stakeholder engagement, helping you grow into a confident and capable project leader.
Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:
- Supporting the planning and delivery of projects, ensuring milestones, schedules, and objectives are achieved
- Developing and maintaining project schedules, cost tracking, and risk management plans
- Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to drive progress and resolve challenges
- Contributing to procurement activities and supporting project governance processes
- Monitoring performance and providing updates to ensure delivery remains on track
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days onsite (typically Tuesday and Thursday as customer comes to them) and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Assistant Project Manager
- Demonstrating a strong understanding of the project lifecycle with practical project experience
- Building effective relationships through excellent stakeholder management skills
- Working within a project management or delivery-focused environment
- Collaborating confidently across teams and functions to achieve shared goals
- Managing competing priorities, deadlines, and changing requirements with resilience
Qualifications for the Assistant Project Manager
- PFQ and/or PMQ qualification or equivalent (desirable) other formal qualifications acceptable
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
