Babcock is looking for a Trade Assistant to join the Fabrication team based in Devonport, Auckland.
About the role
Step into a vital role supporting marine engineering projects in Devonport. As a Trade Assistant, you’ll work alongside skilled tradespeople on ship and shore-based maintenance, repair, and installation tasks. From surface preparation and coatings application to operating forklifts and elevated platforms, your work will keep complex projects moving. Every day brings variety, challenge, and the chance to learn new skills in a dynamic environment.

• $31.50 per hour
• 1.5x paid after 40hrs
• 2x paid after 43hrs

About you
You are practical, safety-focused, and thrive in a hands-on environment. You bring experience in industrial or marine trades, with skills in grinding, welding, and coatings application. You’re confident operating tools and mobile plant, and you understand the importance of hazard assessments and compliance. You work well under pressure, follow instructions precisely, and take pride in supporting complex projects. Your adaptability and teamwork make you an essential part of every job.
Key Required Skills
• Basic welding and grinding skills
• Surface preparation and coatings application
• Ability to operate power and hand tools
• Gas testing and confined space safety
• Forklift and EWP operation
• Reading and interpreting instructions and technical drawings
• Strong decision-making under pressure
• Commitment to health and safety standards
Key Required Qualifications
• Good experience in industrial or marine engineering
• Full NZ Driver’s License (Class 1 minimum)
• Confined Space Entry and Gas Testing training
• EWP and forklift certifications
