Senior Mechanical Engineer

 

About the role 

 

Reporting directly to the Engineering Team Lead, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will plan and apply engineering knowledge to deliver technical solutions in the delivery across a range of domains/phases of the product lifecycle. Supporting the sustainment of RNZN vessels across multiple projects, the Senior Mechanical Engineer will guide the development of colleagues whilst developing their own experience and leadership skills.

 

Key responsibilities will include:

 

  • Conduct multi-domain technical investigations and analysis to provide data for problem assessment/resolution and for design of improvements.
  • Lead technical investigations and analysis applying technical judgement from experience as part of decision making and recommendation.
  • Apply knowledge to produce and review technical documentation and solutions in support of assigned task (in accordance with applicable DoA).
  • Support accurate and appropriate technical documentation records being securely developed and maintained in the appropriate data management system to support through life knowledge capture.
  • Produce and review technical engineering processes to ensure integration with all operational areas.
  • Seek and share good practice and knowledge locally, keep up to date with advancements in relevant technical areas and continue to develop skills and capabilities, to continuously improve both own and colleagues' practice and professional development.

 

 

About you

 

You are an experienced Mechanical Engineer with an accredited degree in an Engineering discipline. 

Your communication skills both written and verbal are characterised by accuracy and clarity, allowing you to successfully engage with internal and external stakeholders, support technical information presentations and discussions, (including formal reviews) and support junior engineers.

You have good understanding of the design, analysis, manufacturing, and support techniques and are able to make multi-domain engineering decisions throughout the lifecycle of the program/product.

With a strong emphasis on safety, you are familiar with conducting multi-domain technical risk assessment and ensuring procedures, codes and standards are correctly identified and applied to engineering and technical activities.
