Senior Engineer - Mechanical

Babcock is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the Engineering Change team based in Devonport, Auckland.

About the role


As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you’ll work on some of New Zealand’s most complex and meaningful engineering challenges, directly shaping the mechanical systems that support the NZDF fleet. This role offers the chance to lead investigations, design improvements, and ensure technically robust outcomes that meet strict regulatory, safety, and operational requirements. You’ll operate with genuine ownership, trusted to deliver high‑quality mechanical solutions that make a real impact across naval and maritime capability.

About you


You are an experienced mechanical engineer who thrives in complex technical environments and enjoys taking accountability for high‑quality engineering outcomes. You work independently, think critically, and apply sound judgement when solving multi‑domain mechanical problems. You’re confident producing designs, calculations, and documentation, and you understand how your work influences safety, compliance, and operational performance. You collaborate effectively, communicate clearly, and support those around you. Above all, you take pride in delivering robust mechanical solutions that stand up to scrutiny.

 

Key Required Skills


•    Mechanical design and integration experience
•    Ability to lead technical investigations
•    Strong engineering judgement and problem‑solving
•    Proficiency with PLM/MRP and engineering software
•    Excellent written and verbal communication
•    Ability to manage tasks to time, cost, quality
•    Knowledge of codes, standards, and compliance requirements
•    Ability to mentor and share technical expertise

 

Key Required Qualifications


•    Washington Accord–accredited Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical or related)
•    Eligibility for Professional Engineer membership
•    Membership of a recognised engineering body (Chartered preferred)
•    Eligibility to obtain NZSIS Confidential clearance
