Babcock is looking for a Rigger Crane Operator to join the Naval Fleet Sustainment team based in Devonport, Auckland.
About the role
Join Babcock’s Marine New Zealand team and play a vital role in supporting the Royal New Zealand Navy. As a Rigger Crane Operator, you’ll be part of a skilled crew responsible for lifting, moving, and positioning heavy loads across the dockyard and naval base. You’ll operate a range of cranes, perform rigging tasks, and contribute to the safe and efficient docking of fleet units. This is hands-on, high-impact work where safety, teamwork, and technical skill come together.

You’ll work alongside experienced riggers and engineers, using your problem-solving skills and trade knowledge to tackle complex lifts and contribute to national maritime capability. • $43 per hour (trade certificate essential)
• 1.5x paid after 40hrs
• 2x paid after 43hrs

About you
You’re a confident, safety-conscious tradesperson with solid rigging and crane experience in industrial or marine settings. You know your way around lifting plans, load charts, and NZQA standards, and you’re comfortable making quick decisions under pressure. You communicate clearly, work well in a team, and take pride in doing the job right. You’re ready to step into a role where your skills matter—supporting naval operations, maintaining equipment, and helping keep New Zealand’s fleet moving safely and efficiently.

Key Required Qualifications
• NZQA Unit Standards 3789 & 3801 – Essential
• Full NZ Driver’s Licence (Classes 1, 2, 4) – Essential
• Trade Certificate Level 4 – Desirable
• NZQA Unit Standards 3795 & 3794 – Desirable
