Babcock is looking for a Project Cost Specialist to join the Program Controls team based in Devonport, Auckland.

As a Project Cost Specialist, you’ll play a critical role in monitoring project performance, ensuring budgets stay on track, and providing meaningful insights that influence key decisions across complex programmes.

 

Working alongside experienced project teams, you’ll bring numbers to life—translating cost data into actionable recommendations. With exposure to major engineering and defence-related projects, this role offers the opportunity to refine your technical capability while contributing to impactful, large-scale outcomes in a collaborative and forward-thinking organisation.

You are a detail-focused cost professional who thrives in complex project environments. You confidently analyse financial data, identify risks, and communicate insights clearly to stakeholders. With strong systems knowledge and a proactive mindset, you keep projects aligned to budget and performance expectations. You enjoy solving problems, working collaboratively, and continuously improving processes. Your ability to balance accuracy, deadlines, and stakeholder engagement makes you a trusted partner in successful project delivery.

 

Key Required Skills

 

  • Project cost control and forecasting
  • Earned Value Management (EVM) reporting
  • Financial analysis and variance reporting
  • ERP systems (IFS, Deltek, or similar)
  • Data validation and accuracy management
  • Stakeholder communication and collaboration
  • Resource and cost planning
  • Problem-solving and discrepancy resolution

 

Key Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field
  • Diploma in Project or Construction Management (acceptable alternative)
  • 3–5+ years’ relevant cost/project finance experience
  • PMP or PRINCE2 certification (desirable)
