Procurement Specialist
Auckland, NZ, 0624
Babcock is looking for a Procurement Specialist to join the Strategic Sourcing team based in Devonport, Auckland.
About the role
Join Babcock as a Procurement Specialist and play a key role in delivering strategic procurement for our Marine Engineering sector. As part of the Sourcing Team, you’ll lead RFx activities, shape category strategies that strengthen supplier relationships, negotiate complex contracts, and embed SRM practices that lift performance across the supply base.
Your insights from market analysis and cost modelling will optimise total cost, reduce risk, and deliver measurable value. Working with the Strategic Sourcing Lead and cross‑functional stakeholders, you’ll turn ideas into outcomes—living our principles to be curious, collaborate, and own & deliver.
You’ll operate in a dynamic environment that demands agility, sound judgement, and a steady hand. You’ll manage supplier escalations, uphold due‑diligence standards, and help embed consistent category management.
With access to ERP tools like IFS and a diverse supply chain, you’ll grow your commercial capability and technical understanding, supported by training that empowers you to be courageous, think outcomes, and deliver lasting value.
About you
You combine sharp commercial acumen with calm, confident negotiation. You architect category strategies, run RFx end‑to‑end, and turn analysis into decisive action. You interrogate costs using TCO and should‑cost models, understand contract law, and manage risk systematically. You build trust with stakeholders and suppliers, uplift performance, and lead escalations professionally. You’re ERP‑literate (ideally IFS), proactive, organised, and ethical. You thrive in regulated Defence environments and are eligible for NV1 clearance, delivering measurable value and resilient supply outcomes at scale, consistently.
Key Required Skills
• Strategic sourcing and category management in complex, regulated environments.
• Commercial acumen and advanced negotiation.
• Supplier relationship management and performance improvement/escalation leadership.
• Contract law understanding for complex agreements.
• Cost analysis: TCO, should‑cost, and cost modelling.
• Supply chain risk identification, mitigation, and governance.
• Data analysis and evidence‑based decision‑making.
• Clear written, verbal, and presentation communication with stakeholder influence.
Key Required Qualifications
• Tertiary qualification in Supply Chain/Procurement/Logistics, Finance, or Commerce.
• Eligibility to obtain (or current) NV1 security clearance.
• Demonstrated experience in strategic procurement/category management within complex, regulated settings (Defence or engineering services desirable).
