Babcock is looking for a Part-time Payroll Officer (3 days) to join the team based in Devonport, Auckland.

About the role

 

Join a high-performing payroll team where accuracy, trust, and impact matter. This Payroll Officer role puts you at the centre of ensuring employees are paid correctly and on time, every time. You’ll work across systems like IFS, collaborate with HR and Finance, and play a key role in maintaining compliance with employment and KiwiSaver legislation.

About you

 

You're a detail-driven payroll professional who takes pride in getting things right the first time. You confidently manage competing deadlines and communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organisation, building strong working relationships and resolving issues promptly and professionally.

 

You understand payroll legislation and enjoy working with systems like IFS or similar HRIS platforms. You maintain strict confidentiality, demonstrate sound judgement, and work collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes. Most importantly, you bring a proactive mindset, a positive and solutions-focused approach, and a genuine drive to identify improvements that enhance payroll accuracy, consistency, and the employee experience.

 

Key Required Skills

 

  • End-to-end payroll processing
  • Knowledge of NZ payroll legislation and KiwiSaver
  • Time and attendance systems (IFS preferred)
  • Payroll reconciliation and reporting
  • Data accuracy and attention to detail
  • Stakeholder communication and customer service
  • Problem solving and discrepancy resolution
  • HRIS and payroll systems proficiency

 

Key Required Qualifications

 

  • Relevant payroll or accounting qualification (or equivalent experience)
  • Certification in payroll (e.g. NZPPA or similar) preferred
  • Knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation
  • Eligibility for NZ Defence Security Clearance
