Babcock is looking for a Marine Fitter to join the Marine Mechanical team based in Devonport, Auckland.
About the role
Join a high-performing marine engineering team delivering essential maintenance, repair, and overhaul services across ship and shore-based assets. This role puts you at the centre of complex mechanical work—propulsion systems, auxiliary equipment, and critical infrastructure—where your technical expertise directly impacts operational performance and reliability.
You’ll work in a collaborative, safety-first environment with strong processes, modern systems, and opportunities to contribute to continuous improvement. - $46 per hour (trade certificate essential)
- OT rates paid at 1.5x for first 3 hours and 2x for anything beyond that

About you
You are a skilled mechanical fitter with strong marine or heavy engineering experience, confident working on propulsion and auxiliary systems. You diagnose faults quickly, make sound decisions under pressure, and take pride in high-quality workmanship. You communicate effectively, work well within a team, and stay focused on safety at all times. Comfortable using digital systems, you are proactive in improving processes and continuously developing your technical capability.
Key Required Skills
- Mechanical fitting and overhaul expertise
- Fault diagnosis and problem-solving
- Propulsion systems knowledge
- Auxiliary systems maintenance (pumps, HVAC, hydraulics)
- Precision assembly, alignment, and testing
- Ability to read technical drawings/specifications
- Strong health and safety compliance mindset
- IT competency for maintenance systems and reporting
Key Required Qualifications
- Trade Certificate (Level 4) in engineering discipline
- Full NZ Driver’s Licence (Class 1 minimum)
- Proven experience in mechanical or marine engineering environments
- Advanced Trade Certificate (Level 5) – desirable but beneficial
