About the Role

Babcock is seeking an experienced Head of Finance to lead financial operations across our Marine contracts in both Australia and New Zealand. Based in Devonport, this is a high‑impact leadership role supporting maritime sustainment for a diverse fleet — from naval ships and submarines for the Australian and New Zealand Navies to offshore support vessels.

This role goes far beyond traditional financial management. We’re looking for someone who brings strong technical capability, excellent people leadership, and ideally experience in business intelligence and data visualisation. You’ll work closely with senior leaders, operational teams, and Commonwealth customers, influencing decision‑making and driving performance across multiple sites and countries. Your strategic thinking and ability to simplify complexity will be essential in shaping financial direction and supporting major Marine programs.

As a key member of the business unit leadership team, you’ll deliver high‑quality financial insights, strengthen analytics, and ensure alignment with Babcock’s broader objectives. You’ll balance immediate operational needs with long‑term planning, identify risks and opportunities, and champion continuous improvement. Success in this role means building high‑performing teams, maintaining strong financial governance, and contributing to enterprise‑wide transformation.

To be successful, you will bring:

  • Legally entitled to work in New Zealand and capable of obtaining a New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) Security Clearance.
  • Tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • Professional qualification in CA/CPA
  • Extensive experience in financial business partnering, including leadership of teams and strategic financial planning across complex environments.
  • Commercial, Contract or Subcontract experience in Defence or other high - risk industries and understanding of contracting methods including EAC, Fixed Price, Cost plus.
