Babcock is looking for a Fabricator Welder to join the team based in Devonport, Auckland.

 

About the role

 

As a Heavy Fabricator at Babcock, you’ll be hands-on with large-scale fabrication projects supporting ship and shore-based operations. From shaping and welding high-grade metals to constructing complex pipe systems, your work will directly contribute to the safety and performance of naval and industrial assets. You’ll be part of a skilled crew in Devonport, working with cutting-edge equipment and supported by a culture that values precision, safety, and collaboration.

•    $46 per hour (trade certificate essential)
•    1.5x paid after 40hrs
•    2x paid after 43hrs

About you

 

You’re a seasoned fabricator who thrives in a busy, hands-on environment. You know your way around heavy metals, welding specs, and workshop machinery. You’re confident reading engineering drawings and fabricating to exacting standards. You take pride in your work, solve problems on the fly, and collaborate well with others. You’re safety-conscious, reliable, and ready to contribute to a team that values your trade expertise and your ability to deliver under pressure.

 

Key Required Skills

 

•    Heavy fabrication of steel, aluminium, stainless & copper nickel
•    TIG, MIG, and Stick welding proficiency
•    Pipe system fabrication and mock-up techniques
•    Operation of CNC profile cutters and hydraulic presses
•    Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
•    Workshop process improvement and SOP compliance
•    Cross-team collaboration and support
•    Hazard assessment and HSE compliance

 

Key Required Qualifications

 

•    Trade Certificate (Level 4) in Fabrication or equivalent
•    Relevant Welding Certifications
•    Minimum 5 years’ experience in marine or industrial fabrication
•    Full NZ Driver’s License (Class 1 minimum)
