Babcock is looking for an Asset Engineer to join the Fleet Asset Management team based in Devonport, Auckland.

 

About the role

Join Babcock’s defence engineering team, where your technical capability directly supports the reliability, safety and through‑life management of critical equipment. In this role, you’ll undertake structured equipment audits — researching baseline data, validating maintenance needs, reviewing designs and producing clear, compliant documentation. Your work will ensure assets entering Babcock’s stewardship are safe, maintainable and supported by the right engineering evidence.

About you

You bring around two years of hands‑on engineering experience and the drive to further develop your technical capability. You’re analytical, confident with engineering data and comfortable working with standards, maintenance requirements and engineering toolsets. You communicate clearly, produce high‑quality documentation and enjoy working collaboratively to achieve strong technical outcomes. You’re curious, detail‑focused and committed to continuous professional development, making you well‑suited to an engineering role in the defence environment.

Key Required Skills

  • Ability to research and analyse engineering baseline data
  • Understanding of maintenance requirements and engineering standards
  • Competency with PLM/MRP or engineering analysis toolsets
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills
  • Ability to conduct engineering investigations and assessments
  • Effective communication with technical and non‑technical stakeholders
  • Strong organisational and task‑planning capability
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams

Key Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Washington Accord accredited)
  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering discipline preferred
  • Eligibility for Professional Engineer membership through a recognised body
  • Ability to obtain and maintain relevant Defence security clearance
