About the Role
Babcock is inviting expressions of interest from experienced Senior Commercial professionals ready for their next chapter. This role will support our operations in New Zealand, where Babcock is the Strategic Maritime Partner to the New Zealand Defence Force — a unique opportunity to contribute to nationally significant Defence capability.
As Senior Commercial Manager, you’ll take the lead on managing the program’s contract and providing high‑level commercial, legal and procurement support. You’ll work closely with our customer to ensure contract compliance, build strong strategic relationships and guide the program through complex commercial landscapes.
You’ll play a key role in shaping commercial strategy, driving governance and risk management, and supporting major decisions across the program. This includes leading negotiations, resolving contract issues, improving commercial processes and ensuring our contractual obligations are met to the highest standard. You’ll also mentor junior team members and contribute to bids, tenders and broader business initiatives.
This is a senior leadership role where your commercial expertise, strategic thinking and ability to influence outcomes will directly support the success of a critical Defence partnership.

To be successful, you will bring:
- Legally entitled to work in New Zealand and capable of obtaining a New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) Security Clearance.
- Degree in either Business, Commerce, Law, Finance or similar.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a complex programme environment preferably within the maritime defence sector.
- Exposure to a fast-paced commercial environment, as well as a working knowledge of Defence contracting would be advantageous.
- Proficiency across the full MS Office suite
- The ability to communicate confidently and clearly, verbally and in writing, with both internal and external stakeholders.
