Babcock is looking for a Design Draughtsperson to join the Engineering Change team based in Devonport, Auckland.
About the role
Are you a skilled draughtsperson with a background in mechanical or electrical design? Join a team driving innovation in naval engineering and play a key role in supporting the operational capability of the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) Naval Fleet.
As a Design Draughtsperson, you’ll be responsible for producing high-quality engineering drawings that support critical change proposals across a range of naval projects. Your work will directly contribute to the safety, accuracy, and compliance of systems that protect New Zealand’s maritime interests.
This is more than just a draughting role—it’s an opportunity to work on meaningful, high-impact projects in a dynamic and collaborative environment. You’ll work alongside engineers, project managers, and technical authorities to bring complex solutions to life, while also contributing to process improvements, mentoring junior team members, and participating in technical investigations.
About you
We’re looking for a detail-oriented professional with strong CAD skills and a passion for precision. Whether your expertise lies in mechanical or electrical design, you’ll be confident navigating technical documentation, managing multiple projects, and communicating effectively with stakeholders.
Key Required Skills
- Proficiency in CAD drafting (electrical or mechanical)
- Strong understanding of engineering documentation and drawing standards
- Experience with engineering change management processes
- Awareness of safety and risk assessment principles
- Ability to coordinate across multiple projects and teams
- Critical thinking and problem-solving mindset
- Effective communication and presentation skills
- Familiarity with defence or naval systems (preferred)
Key Requires Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or related field)
- CAD certification or equivalent practical experience
- Knowledge of statutory design regulations and defence engineering standards
